It is quite normal for a Virgin to feel some pain the first time she has sex. Your inner muscles are being stretched a bit when they have never been stretched before. The idea is to relax as much as you can during sex. It's a common misconception that sex is going to be extremely painful and that you'll bleed all over the place your first time-- Mentally, these misconceptions are what can cause the pain to be a lot worse than it really is.
If you're going to try having sex again, try to relax, we've all been there before and it is not as bad as you have heard or read. The "barrier" that you feel may be because your hymen is still intact but, like I said, try to relax and ask your boyfriend to be as gentle as he can be since it is your first time :)
