Dear Anonymous,

I'm so sorry you're feeling down on yourself. Are there any changes in your life going on that are making you feel so sad?

How old are you? I know you are afraid of being "put away" so if you are old enough to schedule an appointment with a therapist or counselor, please do so. Self harm can progressively get worse and it is your way of coping with problems. However this needs to be replaced by actually coping with your problems in other ways and for that, you need professional help.

If you need to tell your family about seeing a therapist or for whatever reason they will find out if you go, just tell them about your intense feelings of sadness, that you feel like for your health you would benefit from seeing a professional, and that all you want is their support. Eventually, I do encourage you to share that you were harming yourself but as of right now, if you think that telling them will harm you more than it will help you then tell them that you are depressed and need help.

Here are some posts that contain important information and I think you may find them helpful: https://www.empowher.com/community/ask/self-injury-and-cutting
