The development of blood clots in the legs, called deep vein thrombosis, can happen following surgery or hospitalization. Classically, symptoms include pain, swelling, warmth and redness. Not all of these symptoms have to occur. One or all may present.
I would like to add, that having personally experienced DVT following a 4 week hospitalization following a craniotomy, the pain is severe.
