It depends on where the fibroids are located. Fibroids in the fallopian tubes may cause infertility.
The concern with uterine fibroids is not the inability to conceive but to maintain the pregnancy and their impact on delivery.
The presence of fibroids slightly increases the risk for a miscarriage and premature birth. Another risk is the baby being in an abnormal position for delivery, or having stalling labor. There is also a small risk of the uterine tumors to block the birth canal during the actual delivery.
I have uterine fibroids. I have 3 children, never had a problem conceiving, normal full-term pregnancies and all were vaginal deliveries.
With my first child, the fibroids were so large that they obstructed the view of the embryo on ultrasound. The radiologist told me that I was not pregnant and because the fibroids were so large, I probably would never get pregnant. I proved him wrong!
