When a doctor gives a patient a prognosis and a life expectancy, it is merely a guess as to how long this person should expect to live with a disease but it does not guarantee that this person will live that long, nor does it mean that the patient will die after that time has passed. Many doctors now hesitate to give a time frame for life expectancy but what you can do is ask his doctor if it's a good idea to start preparing for after-life arrangements. The best and only person to give you this kind of information is his primary doctor since he knows his history and diagnosis.
