Guide

Pancreatitis is inflammation in the pancreas.  Acute pancreatitis occurs suddenly and lasts for days. Chronic pancreatitis occurs over many years.

Treatment usually requires hospitalization. To allow your pancreas to recover, you will not eat for a couple of days and receive intravenous fluids during this time.

Once the inflammation is under control, you may begin drinking clear liquids and eating bland foods. Pain medications are prescribed to control the pain.

Then the underlying cause of the pancreatitis is treated. Once you are discharged from the hospital, you must stop drinking alcohol, stop smoking, stat eating a low-fat diet and drink more water.

If you suspect that you have pancreatitis, please call your family doctor or visit a health clinic right away. Inflammation of the pancreas cannot be treated with home remedies.
