I have been through Anatomy and Physiology and I now do yoga so I totally know where you are coming from! In yoga they call it ujjayi pranayama, or ocean breath. In the hot yoga studio that I go to we spend a good amount of time focusing on breath throughout the practice and breathing through each pose. There is a lot to say for being in the moment, and centering oneself through breath :)
