You can take an emergency contraceptive if it has been less than 3-5 days (this depends on the manufacturer of the pill). These can be found at your local drug store, in the pharmacy. If it has been longer, then you cannot take anything to prevent it. If your period is irregular, then you can test for pregnancy after 2 weeks of having sex.
