Welcome to EmpowHER. Like I posted previously. Transvaginal ultrasound is a type of pelvic ultrasound. It is used to look at a woman's reproductive organs, including the uterus, ovaries, cervix, and vagina. Transvaginal means across or through the vagina. The health care provider will place a probe, called a transducer, into the vagina. The probe is covered with a condom and a gel. The probe sends out sound waves, which reflect off body structures. A computer receives these waves and uses them to create a picture. It might be a little uncomfortable at first, but you shouldn't be so concerned or embrassed about it. Your doctor or the ultrasound tech, is used to doing this everyday. It doesn't hurt, just try to relax. This will make it easier for the person doing the ultrasound to finish faster and to take the right images needed. It all depends on your doctor, if he still needs to do any other imaging test.
