Hello Anonymous,
A person's libido or sex drive has biological, psychological and social components. For example, hormone levels can increase or decrease a woman's desires.
Dyspareunia is the medical term for painful intercourse. It is defined as persistent or recurrent genital pain that occurs just before, during or after intercourse.
Pain on entry could be the result of insufficient lubrication, injury, trauma or irritation, inflammation, infection or vaginismus, which are the involuntary spasms of the muscles of the vaginal wall.
Deep pain could be the result of certain conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids, cystitis, retroverted uterus, uterine prolapse, ovarian cysts, hemorrhoids or irritable bowel syndrome.
Emotional factors, such as a history of sexual abuse, anxiety or a relationship problem can trigger pain during intercourse. Stress can cause the pelvic floor muscles to tighten and can contribute to pain.
Talking to your physician is the first step in resolving this problem.
