Hello Deanne,
What a frightening experience!

Postpartum preeclampsia is a rare condition. As in your case, a woman has high blood pressure and excess protein in her urine. Most cases develop within 48 hours of childbirth. It requires prompt treatment. If left untreated, seizures can result.

There was no chance to have your blood pressure and urine monitored, since you were discharged from the hospital the day following delivery.

According to the Mayo Clinic, it is believed that postpartum preeclampsia is set into motion during pregnancy, but doesn't cause symptoms until after delivery. Postpartum preeclampsia might increase your risk for future cardiovascular disease.

Generally, postpartum preeclampsia is treated with medication to prevent seizures and medication to lower high blood pressure. Preeclampsia does not cause permanent damage, predispose to chronic hypertension or adversely effect the long-term health of the mother.

Medications to treat migraine headaches either work to relieve or prevent. You should not have to spend a lifetime suffering. There are a variety of medications , muscle relaxation exercises, and alternative medicine therapies, such as acupuncture to combat migraine headaches.
