You are not alone. Women's ability to orgasm is much different than mens and YES, most of time, we have to control that ourselves. If you tell your partner this information, you may hurt his ego and therefore, you have to be careful how you can try and approach him to "give you pleasure" rather than doing it yourself all the time. I think, in general, men like to pleasure their partner so having this conversation should be necessary especially since you may have not had this conversation in the past since it appears you have not been able to orgasm without your own assistance.
