Hello JessicaJean,

A woman can become pregnant by having unprotected intercourse up to five days before ovulation. A man's sperm can survive in a woman's body for 3 to 5 days, and hang out and wait to fertilize the egg during ovulation.

Knowing the exact date that you ovulate isn't easy unless you are using an ovulation tracking method.

The egg stays in the Fallopian tube for about three to four days, but within 24 hours of being fertilized it starts dividing very fast into many cells. It keeps dividing as it moves slowly through the fallopian tube to the uterus. Its next job is to attach to the lining of uterus. This is called implantation.

Some women notice spotting for one or two days around the time of implantation.

Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG) is a pregnancy hormone present in your blood from the time of conception. It is produced by the cells that form the placenta. This is the hormone detected in a pregnancy test.

Levels of hCG can be detected in urine about 12 to 14 days following conception. If your period for this month is late by more than 7 days, take a home pregnancy test.

I hope this information is helpful.
