Ouch, that first mention from your friend must have been brutal. But, it does help us see what others see.
Here's my truth: a stranger once asked me if I was pregnant. I politely informed him...no, I was not. The horror was painted across his face (and the look was pretty priceless...). The apologies came pouring in. The truth was, I needed a stranger to tell me that. As much as it shocked and hurt me, it took me straight to the gym.
Just recently I started combining cardio with weight lifting (weighted lunges are my best friend). So, results to be revealed shortly :)
