Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! The Ebola outbreak has made big news in the last week. It is the biggest outbreak in the history of the disease. According to the World Health Organization, the death toll has reach 729 and the total amount of people currently affected is 1,323.

The Ebola outbreak is occurring in west African countries including Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Today the CDC issued a warning that urges people to not visit these countries. The CDC has three travel warnings to let people know about health concerns around the world, and the Ebola outbreak has been ranked at Level 3, the most serious level.

A lot of people are concerned that Ebola could spread to the U.S., but experts say that is highly unlikely and it will stay contained in west Africa. Even if there was an Ebola outbreak in the U.S., experts say we would be prepared due to our strong healthcare system.

Ebola spreads through contact with bodily fluids and can cause symptoms including fever, headache, muscle pain, weakness, vomiting, and internal and external bleeding.
