Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us with your questions.

You were never at risk for pregnancy when you had sexual intercourse on the third day of your period, regardless if the condom stayed intact or split. Why? Because for pregnancy to occur, you need to be ovulating. Since you were having your period, ovulation happened, at least two weeks before.

By taking Plan B, you upset the normal delicate balance of hormones that regulate your menstrual period. I do not know when your next period will start because of this.

You are not pregnant. The vaginal bleeding that occurred one week after taking Plan B is considered breakthrough bleeding.

In the meantime, if you must be sexually active, use a condom and do not take an emergency contraceptive. It is time for you to consider using birth control, such as an oral contraceptive or IUD regularly.

Regards,
Maryann
