Dear Julie Torres,

Thank you for visiting the EmpowHER community and for sharing your question!

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with your weight and going through early menopause. Menopause and hysterectomy surgery really takes a toll on women's bodies and you are not alone in what you are going through!

Estrogen has a lot to do with controlling weight. Since estrogen levels drop after menopause, it is not surprising that women gain weight or have a hard time maintaining weight as well as loosing it.

Lack of estrogen may also cause the body to use starches and blood sugar less effectively, which would increase fat storage and make it harder to lose weight.

Since you are already exercising and following a good diet-that's half the battle to putting more weight on. As for trying to lose that extra stubborn weight, you might need to exercise a bit more and meet with a nutritionist to fine tune your diet.

A lot of women try weight loss support groups like Weight Watchers etc. It's a tough time both physically and emotionally, so I wouldn't try to go it alone. Reach out for support from a group of other women.

I wish you the best of luck!
