Hello snmilliner,

Thank you for sharing your question with the community.  I understand how worried you must feel.  I'd love to give you some advice on the subject.

If you have been taking your birth control pills consistently every day, they are effective enough to prevent ovulation even when you are sexually active.  In that case, you can feel comfortable ruling out the possibility of pregnancy.  If you still want to be absolutely certain you can always take a pregnancy test.

Irregular periods can happen for many different reasons.  To name a few: stress, too little sleep, medications, anemia, hormonal imbalances, or illness could be the causes.

Usually, an irregular period is no reason for alarm.  But if it continues to be irregular every month, or you miss your period all together, see you doctor.

I hope this was helpful.  Let us know if you have any more questions.
