For clarification, sinusitis is inflammation of the air cavities within the passages of the nose. Sinusitis can be caused by infection, but also can be caused by allergies and chemical or particulate irritation of the sinuses.
Sinus infections are caused by infections from a virus, bacterium, or fungus, which grows within a sinus and causes intermittent blockage of the opening of the sinus.
Except for rare cases, sinus infections are not contagious but are mainly caused by viruses or bacteria that contaminate person who sinuses are compromised because of swelling, inflammation, or abnormal mucus production.
Thus, sinusitis is not contagious whether or not the individual is taking antibiotics.
