Hello Hisbee,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for coming to us with your concern.

If I understand correctly, your girlfriend took a single dose of an emergency contraceptive on December 25, and took the two pills of an emergency contraceptive on January 4.

If so, then the reason she has not had any vaginal bleeding is because she seriously upset the hormonal balance that regulates her menstrual cycle.

There was no need to take an EC on December 25 because she had finished her period on December 22 and it was too early in the new cycle for ovulation.

The synthetic hormone found in emergency contraceptives works by preventing ovulation. Essentially, she over dose by taking an EC twice in a one month menstrual cycle.

She should consider calling her gynecologist or primary care physician for further advice.

Regards,
Maryann
