Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us with your concern about a missed period.

A woman's menstrual cycle can vary from one month to the next by a couple of day. But, the cycle is not changed by the start of a new year.

Pregnancy can be ruled out as the cause of your late period since you say that you have not had unprotected vaginal intercourse since your last period.

Anonymous, you mention that you have a thyroid problem. Were you diagnosed with hypothyroidism or an under active thyroid gland? If so, irregular menstrual cycles is one symptom of this condition.

Not taking the daily dose of the prescribed medication, which must be the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine, is most likely the cause of your late period.

It is very important to take your thyroid medication daily. Not doing so can cause the other associated symptoms like fatigue, slow heart rate and muscle weakness, to return.

Illness, such as influenza, can cause a delay in the start of your period.

Please start taking the prescribed thyroid medication daily, relax, feel better with the flu and I think your period should start.
Any further concerns should be directed to your primary care physician.

Regards,
Maryann
