Hello neilin,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank for seeking our help with your concern about possibly being pregnant.

The bleeding that started 11 days after taking an emergency contraceptive was breakthrough or withdrawal bleeding, which means bleeding between periods. It showed the pill was effective in preventing pregnancy.

You should never take an emergency contraceptive as close as you did. The high dose of synthetic hormones in the pill seriously upset the normal hormonal balance that regulates your menstrual cycle.

All things considered, a history of hypothyroidism and irregular menstrual cycles, along with taking an emergency contraceptive two months in a row and stressing out, you need to consult your primary care physician, who can order blood tests to check your hormone levels.

Neilin, I urge you to speak with a gynecologist and to start using some form of birth control. Emergency contraceptives are not to be relied on as birth control.

Regards,
Maryann
