In many cases, a second opinion is valuable. As a brain and breast cancer survivor, I know the importance of understanding the benefits, risk and side effects of all proposed treatments.
A person who is considering getting a second opinion should first check with her health insurance provider to confirm coverage. Secondly, she should research the specialist's credentials and always opt for an in person evaluation. One's health is too important to do otherwise.
