Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for asking us about possible ways to prevent complete hair loss in women.

You mention that you had your thyroid levels checked. What were the results of the blood test? What does your physician, who ordered the blood test think about this?

Identifying the cause is necessary to recommend suggestions for correcting this problem.

A hormonal problem, especially with the thyroid gland, can lead to alopecia, which is the medical term for hair loss.

A problem with the immune system, called alopecia areata , causes hair loss. The body's immune system attacks hair follicles — causing sudden hair loss that leaves smooth, roundish bald patches on the skin.

Hair loss can be caused by drugs used for cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, high blood pressure and birth control. Intake of too much vitamin A may cause hair loss as well.

Anonymous, this is general information. Please speak with your doctor to find out what the suspected cause is and to get suggestions for correcting this problem.

Regards,
Maryann
