Hello and welcome to EmpowHer,
You should never take emergency contraception with taking regular monthly birth control pills. Not only is it unnecessary, it can completely imbalance your hormones and disrupt your cycle.
Birth control works by preventing ovulation. Without an egg to fertilize pregnancy cannot occur. Therefore, you do not need to use any other form of contraception while taking the pill.
Condoms further ensure no sperm enters the vagina either. But it is only an extra precaution and not necessary.
You need to have a full 7 day break between each pack of pills. Your period can start and end any where between that time frame. Sometimes you can also have spotting even after you start taking the new pack on the 8th day. If this happens simply keep taking the pills. Do not wait for the spotting to end.
Below I have pasted a link to a HER article that talks more about the birth control and how it works.
