Q:

I'm 18 years old and my period is 4 days late

I started having periods when I was 12. Looking over the past two years (as I can't find any later data) my period arrives on an average of every 5 weeks, and lasts about 5 days. The shortest time between periods has been 4 weeks and 2 days, and the longest time between periods has been 5 weeks and 3 days.

On a very rare occasion, it was like my body "glitched", and I got my period 6 weeks after the last - and during the week I was expecting it, I was very depressed.

My periods and PMS symptoms are never that bad - I get a few pimples, then a couple days later I feel emotional/sensitive, and then up to maybe a week later I get my period along with cramping on the first couple of days.

I'm relatively healthy, I think last time I checked I have a BMI of 18-20, so I'm more likely to be underweight than overweight. Also, I grew a couple inches this year and gained a couple of kilos, so clearly, my body is still developing, so I wouldn't be too surprised if my hormones are just settling themselves.

My period was (roughly) due 4 days ago, on the Sunday. As I said, sometimes it arrives before this date, and sometimes a few days after.

However, 4 days is the latest I've ever had (apart from two years ago when my period was a week late). I am sexually active, not currently on any contraception apart from condoms and admittedly the pull-out method. I actually have an appointment for next week to have a copper IUD inserted, so my boyfriend and I have been extra careful during sex for the past 3 weeks (I think we only used the pull-out method once). We also always check the condom after sex to make sure it has not broken (it never has). I also had to do a urinal and vaginal swab/test to check for any infections or STD's for the IUD, and it was negative (which I expected, as my boyfriend was tested before we had sex).

My last period arrived 4 weeks and 2 days after the one before, so that was a bit early, not unusual though. However, it lasted for 7 days, which surprised me.

Also, I experienced my PMS symptoms two weeks ago - I got pimples one day, and the next I was emotional. However, I felt depressed (like I had that one time before) instead of my usual emotional/sensitiveness. It only lasted a day, but it was still more full-on than usual.

So, I was kind of expecting my period to be sometime last week, 4 weeks after my last period. However by the start of this week when it hadn't arrived, I was starting to get worried.

I have anxiety, and I've had it since I was 11. I don't think it's ever interfered with my periods before though.

However, on Monday, the day after I estimated my period would arrive, I went to play sport and I felt nauseous and I had a dizzy spell. I didn't feel the nausea from my stomach or anything, I felt it in the back of my throat/mouth. It may have been because I had not slept enough, I had not eaten lunch, and I had not exercised for a while before I played sort that day.

The dizziness could have also been because of the above, and maybe I stood up too quickly. Anyway, I had a panic attack because I was scared I was either pregnant, dying, or both. The next day, Tuesday, I had another panic attack.

I haven't had any panic attacks in the past two days, but I have felt anxious and I still haven't had enough sleep.

If my period isn't here by this weekend, I will get a pregnancy test. I really hope I am not pregnant. The only sign I could be pregnant is that my period is 4 days late - I don't "feel" pregnant. My boobs are normal (one is bigger than the other so I when I checked and saw one of them was quite "perky" I freaked out but then realised the other was normal, and remembered that one has always been bigger than the other xD)

I have no cramping, no pain, no sickness apart from the day I tried to play sport, my taste and smell is the same, I do have gas but that's because of my anxiety, I don't have any pain/irritation in my vagina, I still have a sexual appetite and when my boyfriend and I tried to have sex yesterday, I wasn't tight or dry.

I should also mention that every time my period is due to arrive, I can always "feel" it coming. I don't mean I get cramps or anything, just this feeling in my abdomen or whatever that I have associated with my periods. It's a feeling that's basically impossible to describe, but I know I feel it when my period is coming.

So, I'm sorry this paragraph is so long, but I had to provide all the details. Now that I've wrote this out and recognised that my last period was kind of irregular and so were my PMS symptoms a couple of weeks ago, and I've been careful during sex, I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't be too worried. But I have anxiety, so here I am.
