Hi Anon,

Thank you for reaching out to EmpowHER with your health question!

A menstrual period typically lasts two to seven days, and occurs every 28 to 35 days. When your period occurs every two weeks it is considered abnormal. I definitely recommend speaking to a doctor about this, because it can cause anemia.

Here are some possible reasons you might be having a period every two weeks:

- Dramatic weight loss or gain
- Excessive exercise
- Illness and/or medications
- Sexually transmitted infections
- Thyroid problems
- Reactions to birth controls
- Onset of menopause - typically women 45 and older

This article goes more in depth about reasons for having a period every two weeks: https://www.empowher.com/menstrual-cycle/content/reasons-having-period-every-two-weeks

I recommend visiting a doctor still for a full analysis. Please let us know how your appointment goes and let me know if you have more questions!

Best,
Erin
