Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to us with your concern.

You were not at risk for becoming pregnant because you were having your period.

To become pregnant, there must be a released mature egg (happens when you ovulate) waiting to be fertilized by sperm (which happens with penetration and ejaculation).

Pre ejaculate fluid itself does not contain sperm. If your boyfriend had a prior but recent ejaculation, sperm could remain in his urethra, which is a tube that urine and semen pass through. Once he urinated, any sperm was flushed out.

Be aware that one side effect is a change in the menstrual cycle. Your next monthly period could start earlier or later than expected. Flow might be lighter or heavier than normal.

Regards,
Maryann
