Vaginal bleeding after sex is usually the cervix — the narrow, lower end of the uterus. Even with a completely healthy cervix, enough friction or mild trauma during sexual intercourse can cause some spotting or bleeding. If this is the first time this has happened, I'd not worry. If it continues to happen, see your doctor. It may simply be your period is starting, as you say, you are late.
