Metatarsalgia is a term that describes pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot. X-rays may be helpful in excluding other causes of forefoot pain. You should probably see a foot doctor (podiatrist) or an orthopedic doctor. If the pain is severe and you cannot wait, going the ER or after-hours facilities like Urgent Care or Doctors Express can help you. They would tell you what specialist to see for a followup as well.
