According to Dr. Lark in her April '05' Special Addendum to her newsletter she states and I quote "Parabens, These synthetic preservatives include 4 classes--methyl,propyl,butyl and ethyl. While they have been shown to inhibit microbial growth,they are used to extend the shelf life of a product, not to protect you from bacteria. Many different sources list parabens as "highly toxic" due to the number of alergic reactions and skin rashes that have been attributed to the chemicals. More recently, and more disturbing, is the suggestion that parabens are xenoestrogens, meaning they have an estrogenic affect on your body. Xenoestrogens have been associated with increased risk of breast cancer and low sperm count in men, among other things."
