I have a labral tear in my hip, but because I am an addicted runner; I refuse to get surgery until after the Disney Dopey Challenge in January 2015. I go to physical therapy and am thinking of getting the fluid shot. Anyone have advice or tips on getting the shot or dealing with a labral tear? Thanks!

Maryann,
Thanks for the response!
Yes, I can still run, since my pain isn't too bad...mostly just irritation. They suggest the NSAID injection! I'm just a little weary about it!

Hello milestogo,
Welcome to the EmpowHER community,
I am assuming that you have been evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon since you have a diagnosis of a hip labral tear. Milestogo, what has your surgeon suggested? Can you still participate in the race without having the surgery?
For the benefit of our readers, a hip labral tear involves the ring of cartilage, called the labrum, that follows the outside rim of the socket of your hip joint. The labrum acts like a rubber seal or gasket to help hold the ball at the top of your thighbone securely within your hip socket.
Conservative treatment options include the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Pain can also be controlled temporarily with an injection of corticosteroids into the joint. Physical therapy is ordered to teach exercises to maximize hip range of motion and hip strength and stability.
Arthroscopic surgery is recommended when conservative treatments do not relieve the symptoms.
