I am not on birth control and I have a very irregular period. By irregular I mean that I have gone almost 8 months without my period. The only way I know that I'm about to get my period is when my breasts are sore. This is also known as my time of ovulation. So, I was not ovulating when I had unprotected sex and he pulled out just in time to ejaculate. I know this method is not effective, it was a stupid spur of the moment. Just in case, I took the plan b one step pill 30 minutes after unprotected sex. I would like to know what the chances are of getting pregnant?

Hi Jane!
Sorry, I misunderstood your cycle :-)
As for your question about BMI, research has shown a relationship between birth control pills and weight. A woman’s weight could contribute to oral contraceptive failure if you are considered obese. Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater. I think you are fine with a BMI of 27, but you might want to consider options on how to lower that number (and feel better too!) :-)

Hi Kristen,
August 31, 2014 - 8:46pmWhat I meant was that my period is always irregular and I don't have a normal cycle. The longest I have ever gone without getting my period was 8 months, but I was a virgin at that time. This incident happened 4 days ago. Also, do you know if weight or bmi affect the pill. I am 150 lbs and my bmi is 27.
Thank you,
Jane G.

Hi Jane,
Thank you so much for your question! If you had unprotected sex and have not had your period in 8 months, there is a very good chance that you are pregnant! Have you taken a pregnancy test? Plan B claims to be 95% effective if taken within the first 24 hours, but what about that 5%? You can certainly be pregnant.
