Barbara:
My name is Barbara. I am from the Woodstock, Illinois area and, one day I got a call from my doctor’s office, generally, the nurse would call, and when I picked up the phone I said, “Oh my goodness, the doctor is on the other line, that can’t be good,” and I said, “Hello doctor, what’s going on? This can’t be good,” and she said, “That’s right, it’s not. You have cancer.”
Of course I froze in my steps and didn’t know what to say or do and I said, “Well, give me the information I need to know.” She told me that I had uterine cancer, it was bad, it was stage 3 and I needed to do something and I needed to do it right now.
Well, I think what goes through everyone’s mind of course is their mortality, their family, their children, their spouses, their friends. They don’t want to die, at least, most people don’t want to die at that moment. I think they are really concerned about what’s going to happen to their family, will they see their children grow up, get married. Will they see their grandchildren? Will they live long enough to retire with their spouse all the years that they worked together to have that wonderful family life? Will they ever see that? You just don’t want to go yet.
