Elisabeth discusses if talking with another spinal patient helped ease her fears about spinal fusion surgery.

Elisabeth:
My fears were calmed when I spoke with one of Dr. Raiszadeh’s patients who had the same surgery as I did, in the way that I felt more confident in his skills. Not that I didn’t feel confident with him originally. He is an amazing surgeon and an amazing doctor, but I felt like there was someone else who had gone through it, and I was able to talk to her about her feelings before surgery and really made me feel better about the decision that I was going to make.

And now that I have had a surgery performed by Dr. Raiszadeh, I have actually spoke with a patient of his that’s going through the same thing, and I spoke for over an hour on the phone with him recently and did the same thing that the patient in the past was able to do for me, and just answer questions about fears that he had right now, concerns that he had about surgery and after surgery.

It is important for me to share my story with the patient because of how much it meant for me when I spoke to a past patient. And just the unknown, the fear of the unknown is huge, and if you are able to get some questions answered from a patient – not that Dr. Raiszadeh didn’t answer any questions – he answered every question I had, anticipated everything, but hearing it from a patient who actually went through it is priceless.
