Irene:
My sister is my younger sister from Atlanta. She is in the educational field and can be pretty critical when things are not organized well. She was here for the surgery and, she could not believe that they permitted the family to stay with me until I went to surgery, and as soon as I was done with surgery, the doctor came out and talked to them. And while I was in surgery, she informed me that they escorted, someone escorted them to the dining room to have a meal so that they would not get lost coming back. Well, it is only a few feet away, but someone went there with them so, that made them feel like they were important to me.
My daughter, as I said earlier, came with me initially and she had lots of questions. My daughter lost her dad very suddenly to a heart attack when she was 17 years old and she lost her brother two years ago. So, she’s holding very tight to her mother right now and it was very important that she understood what I was going through and Dr. Pisick did a wonderful job for explaining to her and to me very early on what was going on. And that’s important, to include the family in the assessment and the discussion and the planned treatment.
So, yeah, I think that extends it to the family. I think that’s the one answer, they include the family in what they are doing. And the fact that they let the family eat here for free, that’s incredible.
