Dr. Katz:
So women will often experience tingling, certainly numbness, and, you know, you know what it’s like when you’ve had anesthetic at the dentist, right? That really sort of rubbery, very different sensation, so this can occur in the breast, and women will often experience, almost like electric shocks. And so any touch, even light clothing over the affected breast can really be uncomfortable.
Many women find they can’t wear a bra afterward because that sensation is so bad. Sometimes that will change, but it can take a long, long time for those changes to occur so it can be very uncomfortable.
About Dr. Katz, R.N., Ph.D.:
My professional life is focused on providing information, education and counseling to people with cancer and their partners about sexual changes that can occur during and after treatment. But there is another important aspect to this work; I want every cancer patient to be able to have a discussion about sexuality with their health care providers.
