VIDEO: Dr. Barba - What Is Your Favorite Patient Success Story?

Dr. Barba shares his favorite patient success story.

Dr. Barba:
My favorite patient story is a woman that had curvature of the spine due to arthritis; technically we call it degenerative scoliosis who had been seen and attempted to be treated by a number of physicians, and examining her, I knew that we had techniques that could help her without the traditionally much larger and much more dangerous operation. She went through the surgery and was able to get up and walk and actually started to walk her dog again and really started to enjoy her life again.

The reason I went into medicine and into spine surgery in general was to try to help patients with bad pain problems, and so for all the work we do, the most gratifying thing in the world is to have someone come in and just say thank you and let you know that the pain is better and that they are able to go on with their life and be able to do the things they want to do.

Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, Dr. David Barba is a member of numerous professional societies including the San Diego Academy of Neurological Surgeons, the Western Neurological Society, and the Research Society of Neurological Surgeons. He is currently serving as associate professor in the Division of Neurological Surgery in the Department of Surgery at UCSD.
