Dr. Braun:
Cancer Treatment Centers of America is unlike any organization I have ever worked for or with, previously. The reason for that is that our goal is to treat each patient with the maximally effective treatment regimen we can provide. Our goal is not to do studies to create new knowledge even though that is something that we harvest as a result of treating each patient the best way we possibly can, but there is never a time where we are confused about what our primary mission is, that is to provide the maximum treatment for each patient that we can possibly provide.
In the course of that, the clinical research program collects results, analyzes those results, and uses those to improve treatment for the next patient that comes through the door. This is a different paradigm than the academic model. In the academic model, many patients get treated with experimental therapies with the primary goal of creating new knowledge, which can then, at some future point, enhance the treatment of the next generation of patients.
At Cancer Treatment Centers of America we reverse that paradigm. We provide the best therapy we possibly can for each patient and in the process, collect information that allows us to improve our treatment for the next patient.
