Dr. Williams:
Risk factors for cervical cancer include early age of first intercourse, having had multiple sexual partners, infection with high-risk types of human papillomavirus, not having had a Pap smear. Women who do not have frequent Pap smears are more likely to develop cervical cancer because the pre-malignant condition has a longer time to develop into an actual cancer.
