VIDEO: Dr. Williams - Gynecologic Cancers, What Are Some Examples?

Dr. Williams introduces herself and shares examples of gynecologic cancers.

Dr. Williams:
My name is Dr. Sybilann Williams. I am a gynecologic oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. I did my residency training after medical school at the University of Connecticut and did my fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Thereafter, I went to Northwestern University where I was on the full-time faculty prior to joining the staff of Cancer Treatment Centers of America 11 years ago.

Gynecologic cancers are those cancers that are taken care of by a gynecologic oncologist and those cancers that are unique to women, and so that includes, starting from the outside in, vulvar carcinoma or carcinoma of the external genitalia, cancer of the vagina, cancer of the cervix, of the uterus, of the fallopian tubes, or of the ovaries.

And there is another kind of cancer that is very similar to ovarian cancer that’s called primary peritoneal carcinoma, and those are very frequently taken care of by gynecologic oncologists.
