VIDEO: Nutritionist Carolyn Lammersfeld - Nutrition Metabolic Support, How Do Patients Learn About It?

March 20, 2009 - 1:27pm 321 reads 0 comments

Nutritionist Carolyn Lammersfeld explains when a CTCA patient will learn about nutrition metabolic support.

Nutritionist Carolyn Lammersfeld:
Well I think it starts actually during the first visit we have with the patient because one of the things that dieticians do is make sure we educate the patient how important it is to maintain their weight and maintain their nutritional status throughout treatment. We know that patients that lose as little as five-percent of their weight actually have more side effects with treatment, mistreatments, have their treatments decreased, which in the long-term, may not be the best thing for managing the disease.

So we start right away educating them why it’s so important to make sure they’re meeting their nutritional needs. Sometimes in that conversation we may already talk about, if this doesn’t work we may need to go the next level and then by the time they’re referred to the nutritional metabolic support team they’ve heard a little bit about why it’s important and what we may need to do if certain things aren’t working along the way.
