Peggy:
Once our patients are up and doing well and mobilizing on their own, they are discharged home with very set discharge instructions, and they can expect a call from the nurses within 24 to 48 hours to see how they are doing. We try to find out if there were any areas that we could improve upon, any areas that they were greatly satisfied with, any people that we could recognize for their benefit, and if they are having problems, refer them to the physicians or answer the questions that possibly we can answer.
If they have questions or concerns regarding their care, that nurses could say, “Well, maybe a hot compress would work,” they would refer them to the physician if the pain is out of control or encourage them to take their pain medicine on a routine basis to keep their pain in control so that they can up be doing their exercises, walking, and that kind of thing to get themselves on the road to recovery.
About Peggy Tilley, R.N.:
