Reverend Percy McCray:
One of my more memorable occasions being here with patients and family members, and there are so many, is Gloria Bailey, and she’s given me permission to use her name, out of Detroit, Michigan and this has been several years ago now, probably seven or eight years.
Gloria was here in our Intensive Care Unit and then in our Stem Cell Unit and basically went into a coma and Gloria’s sister and her husband came and found me and asked me to go pray for Gloria while she was in a very comatose state. And Gloria is a strong believer, she has a strong core faith and belief in God and we literally wept and prayed over Gloria while she was in a comatose state and Gloria basically, three minutes later, popped her eyes back open and responded and revived and lived.
She has been living now probably eight years as a survivor. She always tells the story that she can recall hearing someone praying over her and basically believing that she was not done. It helped her come back, and fight back and regain consciousness. So those are some of the types of things that I can recall with great fondness of being able to practically apply the ideas of spirituality that transcends just medicine and science in and of themselves, that creates a complimentary and an integrative effect that ultimately benefits people mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
