Thank you for sharing more insight into this situation that you and your wife are experiencing. By our brief internet communication, I cannot give you a diagnosis or advise treatment for the problem. However, here is the link to the website for the Mayo Clinic. I think you will find the information on Painful Intercourse very informative and I hope helpful. Give special attention to the sections on causes, test, treatment, coping and support.

Hi,
May 4, 2011 - 4:28pmI am sorry that you are experiencing pain with intercourse for a couple of years and with no relief from using a lubricant. Have you talked to your doctor about this problem? I suggest that you discuss this with your doctor. Treating the problem can do wonders for your sex life, your emotional intimacy and your self-image.
I can provide you with some information regarding dyspareunia or painful intercourse. Possible causes include
insufficient lubrication-caused by changes in estrogen levels during menopause, side effect of certain medications such as high blood pressure medications and antihistamines.
vaginusmus- involuntary spasms of the muscles of the vaginal wall can make attempts at penetration very painful.
vestibulitis- painful penetration which is characterized by unexplained stinging or burning around the opening of your vagina.

I have the exact same problem! Intercourse feels like needles and is so painful I avoid sex like the plague. I avoid the doctor also because even the exams are painful! I know I need to go if I want some relief. I know it is an important part of a relationship . I would rather be alone than have sex also. I can totally relate to your wife. But I was reading that if you don't take care of it it could get worse. I can not imagine it getting worse than it already is. I am only 49 and I have this problem. I like being intimate but avoid it now at all costs. I have decided to go see the doctor. Maybe you should also. Good luck
