Q:

Accurate pregnancy test?

I just took a pregnancy test and was wondering how accurate it is. I had unprotected sex on Jan 25th and took plan b the next day. My period was supposed to start on Saturday. I know that plan b delays your period but I just wanted the relief of knowing of not being pregnant. I believe I followed all the instructions correctly for the test (unsure of the placement to collect urine). Do you think it's accurate or check within a week if my period didn't come?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

You are correct. Some women experience a delay in the start of their next period after taking Plan B.

A pregnancy test checks for the presence of hCG hormone. This hormone is produced only during pregnancy. Levels can be detected in urine about 12 to 14 days following conception.

I would think that if you were pregnant, you would have tested positive by now. But, if you do not start your period by Saturday, March 2, test again.
