Q:

After taking plan b

I took plan b on September 30 after having unprotected sex September 29. I am on a regular birth control and had been keeping track with it, I took plan b just in case because I was worried. My period was supposed to come December 5th and has not. I am wondering when it will come and do I still start my new pack of birth control as regularly planned for Monday the 8th even without getting my period or will this just delay it more?

Should I be experiencing cramps and big breasts? I was having these symptoms since before I had sex because I usually feel it a week before my period, but now since its delayed I'm confused why I still have these symptoms?

Hi Anon,

Thank you for visiting the EmpowHER community and sharing your question about Plan B and birth control. Even though you haven't had your period yet, still start your pack as usual.

PlanB is notorious for delaying the menstrual cycle because it has so many hormones and unpleasant side effects.

I can't tell you when it will come, but try to be patient-it will come...PlanB is very effective at preventing pregnancy.

It could take 2-3 menstrual cycles to get your period regular again after taking PlanB. Just the downside to taking ECP.

If your period doesn't come in a week or so, you can take a home pregnancy test-but for now I am sure you are fine. You just have to wait for the hormones to run their course.

Did this help Anon?

Best,

Kristin
