I took plan b after unprotected sex with my husband 2 1/2 weeks ago, exaclty on my most fertile day (didnt realize that until later). Had possibly breakthrough bleeding one week after that, one week before my expected period. Now I'm 5 days late of my scheduled period and have been having minor cramping (which i rarely if ever get regularly) and slight nausea. Whenever I did have any cramping before AF it only lasted one day tops! Any imput as to what could be causeing the cramping?

Hello Anonymous,

I apologize for the delay in a response to your question.

The bleeding, lighter flow, and cramping were all the result of taking Plan B.

The bleeding was proof it worked and you did not become pregnant.

Changes in the menstrual cycle are a reported side effect. Your next monthly period can start on time, or earlier or later than expected. Flow might be lighter or heavier than normal.

Hope this helps,
Maryann

I took the map on 15th feb, 16hrs after sex. I thought it had worked, as had cramping for 2 weeks. Period was due 3rd march, waited and didn't come. I'm now 6weeks pregnant, shocked. Will everything be ok, as I took the map x

Hello Anonymous,

Have you told your obstetrician that you took the morning after pill?

Hello Maryann,
i had sex on my last day of my period (march 5), the condom broke, and had to end up taking PLan b. I took the pill about 11 hours after the incident and from the 9th to the 13th have had cramps and bleeding. Bleeding finally stopped today, the 13th, but painful cramps are still occurring. Should I be worried? HELp me please!

Hello Anonymous,

Side effects of Plan B usually go away on their own and should not last more than one week.

Hello, I took plan b last Tuesday after I had unprotected sex right away. I looked on my period tracker and it said on the 28th, the day I had sex, said I wasn't fertile. After a week that took it I am having slight cramps and spotting. Is this normal?

Hello Anonymous,

Yes, the slight cramps and spotting are a result of taking Plan B.
Please be aware that the pill can cause changes in your menstrual cycle. Your next period might start earlier or later than expected. Flow might be lighter or heavier than normal.

Maryann

I had unprotected sex February 13, 2017 and took a plan b the next day. I then got my period on the 24 which lasted the usual 5 days. Now March 3rd, I am experiencing severe stomach cramps but no other symptoms. Is it possible that the plan b wasn't as effective as I thought? Do I need to purchase a pregnancy test?

Hello Anonymous,

No, getting your period on February 24 was evidence Plan B was effective. The stomach cramps could be caused by a virus. Wait and see what happens.

Hi Maryann,

I took plan B, and had what seems to be "withdrawal bleeding" about six days later. This lasted for about four days. It has not been about a week and a half since this bleeding started, and I am due (as of yesterday) for my regular cycle to start. Should I expect my cycle to continue as planned, or will it be another few weeks (a month from the start of the withdrawal bleeding)

Thanks so much
