I took plan b after unprotected sex with my husband 2 1/2 weeks ago, exaclty on my most fertile day (didnt realize that until later). Had possibly breakthrough bleeding one week after that, one week before my expected period. Now I'm 5 days late of my scheduled period and have been having minor cramping (which i rarely if ever get regularly) and slight nausea. Whenever I did have any cramping before AF it only lasted one day tops! Any imput as to what could be causeing the cramping?

Hello Anonymous,

Plan B can cause changes in the menstrual cycle. The next period can start earlier or later than expected. Flow might be lighter or heavier than normal.

Your menstrual cycle should return to what is normal for you the following month.

If this second period is very different than please speak with your gynecologist.

Maryann

Hello,

My boyfriend and I had protected sex the 18th of December around 1am, but the condom came off. Took the plan B the 18th around 6am. Started my period the 5th of January and then another the 22nd of January that was lighter than normal. For the past couple of weeks since my last period my stomach has been hurting throughout the entire day. Should I test or should I even be worrying?

Hello Anonymous,

Since you had bleeding after taking Plan B, and your period, there is no need to test or worry that you are pregnant.

Hi,

I had unprotected sex on the 1st of Jan at around 4am. He didn't ejaculate inside. I took the morning after pill 11 hours after which is called Levonelle 1500 here in Ireland. But it apparently equates the US plan b . I am around 112 pounds. Yesterday(12th), I started getting bad cramps and a nominal pain and I couldn't eat without wanting to throw up. Could it just be the hormones or is there a chance that I am pregnant? I have also had anxiety for the past few days so maybe that explains the bad appetite? I'm supposed to have my period any day now. Is it normal to have symptoms this many days after the pill? (10-11)

Hello Anonymous,

It is a bit late to be having side effects. Most side effects pass within 24 hours.

Changes to the menstrual cycle are a reported side effect. Your period could start earlier or later than expected, but not by more than five days.

If you do not have any bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill, test for pregnancy.

If the symptoms persist or worsen, please contact your gynecologist.

Regards,
Maryann

This bothers me. I had a mishap 11-12 days ago and just discovered plan b isn't effective if you're ovulating. He wasn't sure if he pulled out in time when he felt the condom break, so i took it just to be on the safe side. Well, sure enough it was the day before I normally ovulate (charting bbt). I had tons of ewcm the next day. Took plan b the very around 3 pm. No side effects at all. I've not had any spotting or bleeding. Day 9 post plan b, suddenly I'm tired... not just tired but exhausted and breasts are sore beyond belief. They feel like they grew a cup size overnight. I've gained 5 lbs in a week from being so hungry all the time. I am due to start period 02/06 if it's on time. And as of today, I have dull ache in my back and lower tummy just like if i were to ovulate. Nothing painful just noticeable. I'm so nervous. I've read side effects only last 24- 48 hrs but then see others who say they had these symptoms well past that. I'm not late yet so at least I have that going for me, but the nerves are the worst!

Hello Anonymous,

I can appreciate how anxious you are feeling right now. Wait for your period. Plan B can cause your period to start earlier or later than expected. Flow can be lighter or heavier than normal.

The recommendation is if you do not have any bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill, test for pregnancy.

In your situation, if your period is late by more than seven days, take an early response pregnancy test.

Maryann

Hi,

My fiancée and I hadn't unprotected sex December 26th. The first day of my cycle was December 16th. For over a year I have had 33-35 day cycles which would put my ovulation day around January 4th. I use a thermometer and chart daily plus checking for ewcm. This cycle, on December 28th I felt like I may be beginning to ovulate, I noticed ewcm and felt a little nauseous as I sometimes do before ovulation. I took plan b that day within 48 hours of unprotected sex. Now I am having nausea every morning and am feeling dull cramps off and on throughout the day for the past few days. I don't know if I should test or continue waiting until my expected period would be due on the 11th if I indeed ovulated on the 28th. The dull cramps make me worry it's implantation cramps. Any advice is welcome. I am under 175 pounds. Thank you.
