Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

Hi I took Nordette as an ECP (oct 30) and got my bleeding 5 days after (oct 5). BLeeding ended 2 days after (oct 7). IS it normal to still feel sode effects of nausea and bloatedness today? (OCT 12) I took a PT today, and it was negative. Am I pregnant??? I am so scared.

Hello Anonymous,

You are not pregnant. The bleeding was proof that Nordette was effective in preventing pregnancy.

Most side effects last about one week. If you continue to feel nauseous and have uncomfortable bloating, speak with your physician.

Every woman is different and can respond to the side effects differently.

Maryann

Thank you very much, Maryann. You don't know how you guys help women out there. Your time and effort are very much appreciated. I am nervous - mostly because these pills are so alien to me that I don't know what is happening to my body. It is indeed life changing to be struck to be more responsible with our actions.

Hi. I took ECP last August 17 at 8pm and the second dose on aug 18 at 8am. Then on august 30 I had heavy bleeding and i think it was my withdrawal bleeding. It ended on sept 2. On sept 4 I had unprotected sex and i am not really sure if my boyfriend cum inside me. Could I get pregnant? Or should i just take another set of ECP? Pls help. Thanks

Hello Anonymous,

Do not take another dose of an emergency contraceptive. You should never take more than one dose in a 30 day time period.

The heavy bleeding proved the pill worked to prevent pregnancy.

An ECP prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. Depending on where you were in your menstrual cycle on August 17 and 18, you may still have been protected on September 4.

If your next period is late by more than seven days, or you miss it, test for pregnancy and call your gynecologist.

Maryann

Hi Ms. Maryann

I'm really scared and freaked out right now. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex at the last day of my period. I took Nordette as an CP 24 hrs after. I got my withdrawal bleeding 5 days after for 2 and a half days. It was very light bleeding. I'm still feeling nauseous and my lower abdomen is really bloated. Could the bleeding be possibly withdrawal bleeding and safe to say that I'm not pregnant or could it be implanation? It's day 11 after I ingested Nordette and I've been having watery discharges and recently white sticky dishcharfe. )903 you can help me out. It's so hard to function.

Hello Anonymous,

Bleeding after taking Nordette showed the pill worked and you did not become pregnant.

This was not implantation bleeding, Implantation bleeding is spotting, not a flow and can happen six to 12 days following conception.

Nausea and lower abdominal pain with bloating are side effects of the pill. Changes in your vaginal discharge are probably because of Nordette.

If you still feel this way in another week, please speak with your physician.

Maryann

Hi. I had my withdrawal bleeding last July 16 (heavy flow with clots) But now I am worried because it's my 5th day of being delayed from my expected period for this month. I am so worried. Is this just a side effects from ecp? Im experiencing abnominal pain, mild cramps sometimes and a white discharge.

Hello Anonymous,

A delay in the start of the next menstrual period is a side effect of ECP. If you do not start your period in the next two or three days, please contact your gynecologist.
